27.02.2026
February 25 was not just an ordinary school day for the first-year students of the "Computer Science and Computer Engineering" program at the C2RED-AI Educational Center of VSTU, but a real immersion into their future profession. The excursion was organized by the Career and Employment Department of VSTU together with the C2RED-AI Center. These polytechnic students, who are just beginning their journey in IT, received a unique opportunity to peek "behind the scenes" of a major technology company, IBS, one of the university's industrial partners.
The tour began with a welcome speech by Ekaterina Fomenko, the head of the regional center in Volgograd, who spoke about the scale and philosophy of the IBS Group of Companies. The students learned that IBS implements comprehensive IT solutions for major industrial enterprises, the financial sector, and government agencies throughout Russia.
But the highlight was the direct interaction with those who create technology today. The students walked through the modern office spaces and saw how the workplaces of developers, testers, analysts, and architects are organized. Using real projects, company specialists demonstrated the full cycle of software development: from discussing requirements with the client and designing the architecture to writing code, testing, and implementation.
The demonstration of working with big data and elements of artificial intelligence within business applications was of particular interest to the future IT specialists. They had the chance to ask questions about which technologies are currently most in demand in the industry and which soft skills, in addition to technical knowledge, are critically important for a successful career.
"The goal of such meetings is to blur the line between university theory and industrial practice," comments M.V. Shcherbakov, Head of the C2RED-AI Center and the CAD & PC Department. "When first-year students see the serious and interesting tasks their potential future colleagues are working on, they gain a completely different motivation for their studies. They understand why algorithms, databases, or system design are necessary. This is an invaluable experience."
This event became a vivid example of the successful implementation of VSTU's strategy to integrate education, science, and industry. Thanks to a close partnership with leading companies like IBS, the technical university not only trains personnel but also fosters an environment for their professional growth from their student days.
