A delegation from Weifang Vocational Institute (People’s Republic of China) visited VSTU

For two days, Volgograd State Technical University (VSTU) hosted a delegation from Weifang Vocational Institute. The delegation included Ren Peihua, Vice-Rector; Sun Weifu, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Creativity; Xu Gang, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Electromechanics; Wang Rui, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Automotive Engineering; and Kong Jing, Head of the International Exchange Department and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Electromechanics. The visit took place within the framework of Russian-Chinese cooperation in the field of higher education.

Yesterday, the Chinese colleagues met with the university leadership. The Rector of VSTU, Corresponding Member of the RAS Alexander Navrotski, welcomed the guests and spoke about our university, which was founded in 1930 to address the challenges of the country's industrialisation. Almost a century has passed. Today, VSTU is a major educational and scientific centre capable of addressing issues of technological leadership. Alexander Valentinovich spoke about the fact that the university's scientists are solving scientific and industrial problems in the fields of chemical technology, materials science, mechanical engineering, robotics, architecture, urban planning and others, and also provided examples of some scientific developments.

Mr. Ren Peihua, in turn, noted that Weifang Vocational Institute has been ranked among the TOP-50 vocational institutes in China for three consecutive years (out of a total of 1,600 in the country), and its immediate plans include obtaining university status. The Chinese colleagues highly value our cooperation in higher education. It should be recalled that a joint Bachelor's programme in the field of "Instrumentation Engineering" is being implemented at the Department of Electrical Engineering of VSTU under the "3+1" scheme: for three years, Russian faculty members teach disciplines in China, with the possibility for Chinese students to come to VSTU for their fourth year to complete their studies and prepare their graduation theses. The parties also discussed immediate plans for further cooperation.

Also yesterday, the Chinese delegation visited the company "Stereo-tech", founded by staff and graduates of the Department of Automation of Production Processes of VSTU – a leading developer and manufacturer of multi-axis FDM printers.

And today, the guests from China met with students. Seven Chinese students have come to VSTU and are currently actively learning Russian. Ahead of them is a year of study within the framework of the joint educational programme.
