Foreign students and postgraduate students of VSTU visited the exhibition “Symbols of Victory”

18.02.2019

For foreign students and postgraduate students of the flagship university the first week of a new academic semester was marked by their participation in a significant cultural event.

For 76-th anniversary of Victory in Stalingrad battle two relics: marshal Georgy Zhukov’ Order of Victory and copy of the Banner of Victory were brought to the Panorama museum of Stalingrad battle. The Banner of victory is kept in the Central Museum of the armed forces of Russia and is not displayed, but some official copies were made for exhibitions, one of which is nowadays represented in the Triumphal hall of the Panorama museum.

In the centre of the Triumphal hall there is the Order of Victory. Its specimen copy was created on November 5, 1943, when outcome of the war became evident and there emerged a necessity to institute an award for outstanding commanders. G.K. Zhukov, A.M. Vasilevsky, commander-in-chief J.V. Stalin became the first holders of this order on April 10, 1944. Afterwards each of them became twice holders of the Order of Victory. The orders were handmade and looked like an art work of jewelry, being made of platinum, brilliants and rubies.

Around the Triumphal hall there are informative stands with portraits of 19 national and foreign order holders. In the centre, behind the Banner of Victory there is a stand with photographs of the soldiers, having planted a standard on the dome of the Reichstag.

Foreign students of VSTU had detailed information on the relics, circumstances of their presentation, handing over to the state storage and places of permanent exhibition of every order, which they got on the courses of the Russian language.

The exhibition sparked keen interest and a great amount of photographs and videos has been already sent to students’ relatives to different countries of the world and posted on social networks.

The world needs to know the truth about great act of bravery of our people.
